Anna Kolosova
CV
Bio
Anna Kolosova (b. Riga, Latvia, 1991) is a contemporary artist based in London. Originally coming from a Neo-realism background, discovered herself in more abstract styles. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2014 and since practicing in East London. Anna is an internationally exhibited artist, having had shown in Germany, Spain, US, Greece, Latvia, UK, Italy and Russia. She has been written about in The Guardian, Cosmopolitan, Vogue and many independent publications.
Artist Statement
Kolosova’s work is painting in an expanded field — for her “painting is a state of mind”. Her medium ranges from more ‘traditional’ approaches, in mixed media, to experimenting with dimensions, adding sculptural and live elements. Sometimes, her painting branches out into poetry and music, as well as digital forms. Anna has Synesthesia, so this condition and superpower informs her practice involuntarily. She sees music and all sounds, smells, numbers, and letters, and energies in colours and shapes.
Her recent body of work, made in the last 1,5 years is her newly acquired style of painting, which she calls ‘psychedelic abstract expressionism’. It depicts her synesthetic visions of energies and sound, manifesting into the 3d — micro and macro formations of sacred geometry collided into trippy abstract compositions — if we are zoomed in an out of our ‘psychitexture’ — architecture of our minds' constructed perception of reality. For Anna this is also inspired by psychedelic, electronic music.
During her Synesthetic Action Painting performances, she explores that by directly responding to sound or smell, depicting the visions live in front of the audience, bridging the sensory gap for the voyeurs to enjoy her own private multi-sensory experience and reach sensual meditative states.
